Medieval beauty in Sarlat

Day 1 :
After an early morning arrival in Sarlat meet up with Myriam "la belle Sarladaise".. Dressed up and good humoured she will take you right back in time to the 13th century with her gossip and tittle tattle allowing you to discover this unique town. Next, take the panoramic lift (designed by Jean Nouvel) nestled in the bell tower of St Marie’s church. On arrival at the fully glazed summit, take time to contemplate Sarlat through 360° - the sandstone walls, flagstone roofs …

Lunch in a restaurant in the medieval town.

In the afternoon you will visit the Château de Puymartin a family castle dating from the 15th and 16th centuries and occupied all year round by the family contains superb furniture and tapestries. You will hear the beautiful but terrible legend of « La Dame Blanche » (the White Lady). Later you will visit a family run farm and lean about duck and goose rearing. After a tasting of foie gras, rillettes and other home produce you return to Sarlat to check in at your hotel.

Day 2 :
After breakfast your accompanying guide will take you to La Roque Gageac, a charming village nestled into the Cliffside on a loop of the Dordogne River : look out for Tarde manor and château de la Malartrie,with its exotic garden and Roman church. Board a sailing barge, a scow (sailing boat from the 18th and 19th centuries) : All along the cruise you will see castles and manor houses, and learn about the flora and fauna and its ecosystem, and the life of the boatmen…

Lunch at a Farmhouse inn.
In the afternoon visit the gardens at Marqueyssac :on this cliff top above the Dordogne River you wander through the Italian inspired garden set out around the 18th century castle. Stroll through 6km of fascinating boxwood gardens, green theatre settings, belvederes, rockeries and streams…
Return to Sarlat to drop off the accompanying guide. End of stay.
