Escape to the South West

Day 1 : Bergerac and Monbazillac
Arrival in Bergerac during the morning: the most significant centuries of history and architecture in the famous city of Cyrano.
Guided tour of the old town of Bergerac, where formerly the barges docked in the old port to unload the products and wood that came from the north and ship the wine barrels to Bordeaux, then to England and Holland.
Maisons des Vins Learn everything about the 13 appellations which constitute this region, film, sensory room to have fun guessing the aromas of the wines and of course the vinotheque. There, you will complete your knowledge by a tasting.
Lunch at a restaurant.
In the afternoon, a boat trip on the river Espérance.
Guided tour of the castle of Monbazillac, its four towers proudly dominating over an ocean of vineyards; its appearance associates medieval architecture and the Renaissance. Stroll in the park and admire the beautiful 180 ° panorama of the Dordogne Valley and Bergerac from the terraces.

Day 2 : Sainte-Foy la Grande, bastide en Sud-Ouest
Breakfast at the hotel.
Sainte-Foy la Grande Guided tour of the small bastide typical of the Southwest region. The city is characterised by a grid plan around a square where stood a central hall, surrounded by arcades. Appreciate the half-timbered facades, side by side with elegant pale stone houses. Musée de la batellerie et du vin in Port Sainte-Foy. Guided tour to discover the commercial and wine-making tradition of the region.
Lunch

château de Montaigne. Guided tour. Famous for his Essais, the famous writer was also mayor of Bordeaux and enjoyed being able to retire to its Tower where he could write and contemplate at leisure.
Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.

Day 3 : Eymet and Duras
Breakfast at the hotel.
Eymet one of the few bastides to have a fortified castle, of which remain the walls and a noble dungeon.
Lunch.
Château de Duras initially a fortress in the 14th century before becoming a Renaissance-style mansion and suffer during the French Revolution. Travel through history and architecture whilst visiting the 30 rooms of this historic monument. Discover the secret passage, the room of Ghosts, the animated model, climb the tower or walk along the courtyards’ balconies on a visit with an audio guide, or a guided tour.

Day 4 : Saint Emilion and the vineyards
Breakfast at the hotel
Saint-Emilion.A rich guided tour of four major sites to understand the heritage of St Emilion. Travel through the centuries of history. From the history of the monk Emilion, between legend and reality, to the archaeological digging of the surprising monolithic church, observe in detail the paintings of the chapel of the Trinity and access to the secrets of the catacombs.
Free time in the City of St Emilion.
Lunch at a restaurant in St Emilion.
In the afternoon, a trip on the small vineyard tourist train to discover some of the major wines: three 1er Grands Crus Classés A, twelve 1er Grands Crus Classés B, three Grands Crus Classés followed by a tasting.

Day 5 : Heritage and delicacies of the Isle valley
Breakfast at the hotel.
St Sauveur Lalande church at Montpon Monesterol, the only half-timbered church in the department!
Visit to an Ivan’s forge where you will appreciate the precision of the work of the blacksmith.
Ferme des Chantoux: a guided tour of a duck rearing farm and discover the variety of its products thanks to a gourmet tasting.
Lunch
Boat trip aboard the barge «Le Duellas» in the footsteps of the boatmen of yesteryear. The life of the boatmen will be recounted, the richness of the fauna and flora presented... During this river cruise of 1h30, you will pass through a manual lock, unique in Périgord!
Ferme du Petit Clos: enjoy a homemade ice-cream made from the milk produced on the farm.
Return journey to the Bergerac region. End of stay.
